Safari Itinerary:

1st Day
Meet your Driver/Guide then depart from Johannesburg or Pretoria and travel east across the Highveld farmlands and down Schoemanskloof towards Nelspruit, the capital of Mpumalanga. Your guide will discuss where to stop for a light lunch then continue to Kruger Park entrance gate. Spend the afternoon on your first exciting game drive looking for antelope, giraffe, zebra and elephant. Learn about the animals you are watching and what they usually eat. Before sunset exit the Park at Phabeni Gate and drive a short distance to Little Pilgrims Hotel in the bustling town of Hazyview. You will be welcomed by friendly staff and shown around the hotel which has an historic mining background. Expect an excellent dinner in the Wagon Wheel restaurant and a good night's sleep.

2nd Day
Awaken at dawn, enjoy a quick cup of coffee then head into Kruger Park for a full day of game viewing. At first drive through bushveld areas then probably along the river looking for Big 5 species ( lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo ). The Sabie River is a dominant feature of southern Kruger and gameviewing along the banks can be very exciting. Stop at Skukuza or Lower Sabie for breakfast and a great view of any hippos or crocodiles in the river. Continue on the mid-morning game drive through the open grasslands & an opportunity to see some smaller animals and birdlife. Call into one of the other Camps or maybe a picnic spot during the heat of the day - time for lunch, curio shopping or a chat. During the afternoon drive see the animals venture out of the shade and begin grazing again. Your guide will offer you a checklist to remind you how many species you have seen ! Leave the Park before sunset and return to Little Pilgrims Hotel in time to relax in your spacious room or have a swim before dinner.

3rd Day
Enjoy a full English breakfast at the hotel then depart for the morning's sightseeing. Drive from Hazyview through banana plantations and climb up the escarpment to the Panorama Route. Visit 3 Rondavels viewpoint in the magnificent Blyde River Canyon which is a highlight of the area. Browse at informal markets for local curios then continue to God's Window and probably a waterfall.

Our last stop is at Graskop Gorge Lift which is one of the most exciting developments for tourists in Mpumalanga and provides memorable photos. The Otis built lift takes visitors 51 metres down the face of the gorge into the forest below where wooden walkways and suspension bridges meander along a 600 metre trail through the indigenous forest with interactive exhibits. The lift travels 1 meter / sec and takes 1 minute to reach the bottom. There is also a well-stocked curio shop here and a restaurant for lunch.

Drive back to Hazyview, enter Kruger Park and proceed to your overnight Rest Camp. Book into a chalet with aircon and screens to prevent insects. Time to freshen up before boarding the open game viewer around 16.00 for the evening drive - duration 3 hours. You can experience the wonderful colours of the setting sun followed by the night sky and nocturnal viewing with spotlights. Usually we find hyena, rhino and maybe one of the big cats. Return to camp for a braai or dinner in the main restaurant. Overnight to the sounds of the bush.

4th Day
Depart from camp for your final game drive searching for those elusive animals you may have missed such as leopard often found in trees or rocky outcrops . Breakfast, time for group photos, then leave the Park to begin your homeward journey. Travel past the citrus orchards to Nelspruit, along Elands Valley and back up to the Highveld with a stop for refreshments. Arrive in Gauteng and drop off at your home by late afternoon.
