The name Hongonyi means wildebeest or gnu and this private game reserve is situated about 45 minutes from the entrance gate to central Kruger Park. It covers an area of more than 1,000 hectares and has many different species of mammals as well as abundant bird life.

With 14 delightfully comfortable en-suite twin bedrooms, and a cosy Honeymoon suite, surrounded by tropical gardens, the lodge ensures the ultimate in rest and relaxation. Rooms are equipped with en suite shower / toilet, overhead fans and insect screens to protect you from the African heat and to ensure a good night's sleep.

The overnight program includes a Big 5 game drive in nearby Thornybush Game Reserve and an early morning drive combined with a bush walk on Hongonyi . Both activities are conducted in an open safari vehicle. Thornybush consistently provides thrilling game viewing and excellent photo opportunities. Your ranger from Hongonyi will select a safe area in which to do a foot safari & show guests some smaller creatures such as insects, reptiles and colourful birds.

A scrumptious breakfast served in the thatched lapa, awaits you after the unforgettable adventures in the bush. Spend leisure time around the swimming pool, on the viewing deck, playing chess in the bush lounge or simply relaxing in a garden hammock under the shade of the famous Amarula tree, from which the amarula cream liqueur is made.

Delicious home cooked meals and traditional South African braais are enjoyed in the boma under the African sky following the evening / night drive. Guests can discuss the highlights of the day’s safari around a campfire and listen to the sounds of African animals such as hyena.
